Welcome to an intensive ceramics course focusing on surface decoration!

Day 1 – Introduction to Clay
The week begins with an introduction to both wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques. In wheel throwing, we focus on classic ceramic forms such as cups, bowls, and vases. Away from the wheel, we explore techniques such as coiling, slab building, and pinch techniques, as well as more sculptural approaches.

Day 2 – Introduction to Engobe
On the second day, we experiment with painting using colored clay slip (engobe) on the pieces created the day before.

Day 3 – Sgraffito
On the third day, we work with sgraffito – a technique where engobe is applied to the clay surface and then carved away to create patterns and imagery.

Day 4 – Water Etching
On the final day, we explore a technique using wax to create tactile patterns and textures in the clay.

You will work at your own pace and receive individual guidance by two course leaders throughout the course

The course is suitable both for beginners who are curious about ceramics and for those with previous experience. Teaching includes both group demonstrations and individual guidance throughout the course.

We will fire and glaze your work after the course. You can choose from several different glazes (colors), and your finished pieces will be ready for collection in approximately six weeks.

Materials
A clay cost of 65 kr/ kg including firing and glazes.

Coffee or tea will be provided – if you need a snack, bring one.
